CRYSTAL HOUSE
Location | Amsterdam
Architect | MVRDV
The excellence of the artisans at NVR, which is part of Made in WonderGlass group, manufactured the bespoke glass bricks for the Crystal House project to the specifications of the architects MVRDV.
From a research by TU Delft, Crystal House is an example of entirely architectural use of glass. The bricks formed an integral part of the structure supporting the façade and they were used for their strength, not only their beauty. The glass bricks were reticulated together using UV gluing which meant the surfaces needed to be perfectly balanced and highly polished. Although essential in their design, the skills needed to achieve a consistent quantity of nearly identical, handmade glass bricks is always a challenge.
